To catch a second wind, you have to stay in the game long enough

I was out on a run when I realized that, to catch a second wind, you have to stay in the game long enough. You have to run long enough for the second wind to occur. If you don’t—if you quit before it happens—you deny the possibility of it happening.

Of course, it’s never guaranteed. Maybe it is time to quit. But then you’ll never know what an extra shot might have done.

To get lucky, you have to show up. And then you have to stay in the game.
